Linda Corbett's new website, The Ashton Territorials, 9th Battalion, Manchester Regiment during WWI. Ashton Pals

"Whilst researching my own family history I discovered that I had no less than 22 ancestors who had served in the Ashton Territorials, 9th Battalion during WWI. I visited KEW, London, to search through the war records, and was disappointed to find that only one service record belonging to one of my ancestors had survived the blitz of WW2, and sadder still, his service record was blank - it had never been filled in! I needed to find more information about those who had served, so I joined the Manchester Regiment Forum, which at that time, was just a small website, but the lads on there held a wealth of information regarding the Manchester Regiment. As time passed, one member of the forum contacted me and offered me copies of the Ashton Reporter covering 1914-1918. I accepted his kind offer, seeing as I live in Kent and could not visit the Local Studies Library, Ashton. The Reporter holds such a wealth of information regarding those local lads who served during WWI, and so I decided to share the information I have to hand."

"The lads at the Manchester Regiment website have asked me to enquire if you would also list them, as they have a forum on their website and are happy to assist anyone researching their ancestors who served in the Manchesters... this service they do free of charge."
